On September 21st 2010, following on from all the work to improve the energy efficiency of the Village Hall, Helen Sammons invited children from All Saints C.E. (C) Infant School, Ranton, to visit the Village Hall.

The youngsters came to look at the new Solar Panels and to learn about and discuss energy issues. They talked about the use of fossil fuels, CO2 emissions, climate change, impacts on the polar regions and the ice sheets, with Karen.  Then they painted polar bears with Rose Hale, a local Art Tutor who had visited the Arctic earlier that year.

At the same time half the group built bird and bat boxes with Steve Archer from Staffordshire County Council (who has already helped us with the community bench building events).

We ran this event as part of a commitment to funders of the village hall energy measures – to undertake educational activities and to produce a display.

As part of the Village Trail project we arranged two really well attended Bat Box and Nest Box Making events (January and February 2011 ), with over 100 people joining in, making around 300 boxes.  Each person took one home to put up in their gardens, and one to erect in and around the village.  Many of these are already in use!
