On the morning of Sunday, February 8th 2015 Derrington Way Ahead supporters joined up with the Derrington Millennium Green monthly work party to put up around 15 nest boxes, to provide further nesting opportunities around the village.  The nest boxes had been made as one of the activities at our ‘Wild About Derrington’ event last April and have been put up ready for the new nesting season. These new nest boxes add to a good number of nest boxes that have previously made and installed, including many made by villagers and visitors at community events.

Last Sunday’s activity supports the National Nest Box Week campaign. You can find out more about this campaign here: http://www.bto.org/about-birds/nnbw

Working with the Barn Owl Action Group, we will shortly be placing two Barn Owl Boxes in trees in the area and will be making Tawny Owl Boxes too, several of which will be put up in Duddas Wood, on the edge of the village.

This work is part of a wide number of initiatives that have been undertaken through Derrington Way Ahead, an initiative set up originally as a pilot project with support from Stafford Borough Council to help create more sustainable, low carbon communities in Stafford Borough.

A wide range of projects have been successfully set up and you can read about these here: http://www.derringtonvillage.co.uk/
